August 30 Victory Day 95th Anniversary

What is August 30 Victory Day?

Victory Day is the national holiday celebrated on August 30 every year in the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to commemorate the Great Offensive that resulted in victory under the command of Mustafa Kemal in Dumlupınar on August 30, 1922.

After the successful conclusion of the Great Offensive, also known as the Battle of the Commander-in-Chief because it was held under the Commander-in-Chief of Atatürk, the Greek Armies were followed up to Izmir; With the liberation of Izmir on September 9, 1922, Turkish lands were liberated from Greek occupation. Although it was later for the occupation troops to leave the country’s ends, August 30 symbolically represents the day the country’s territory was taken back. Celebrated for the first time in 1924 as the Victory of the Commander-in-Chief in Afyon, August 30 has been celebrated as Victory Day in Turkey since 1926.
