What You Should Know Before Using Tetradox Doxycycline for Acne

Tetradox (Doxycycline) is an antibiotic in the tetracycline family that is commonly used to treat moderate to severe acne as well as a variety of bacterial infections. Doxycycline is an antibiotic related to a class of antibiotics called tetracyclines. It is the most commonly prescribed oral antibiotic (pill or capsule) for acne and rosacea. It should only be considered for those suffering from inflammatory acne; In other words, common, red, angry pimples. It is also beneficial for those dealing with acne on larger areas of the body (chest and back acne) and for patients who do not respond to topical medications alone. Doxycycline is the most widely used oral antibiotic for acne because of its few side effects and its effectiveness in the treatment of inflammatory acne. Doxycycline is sold under the brand names of Doryx, Vibramycin, Oracea, Adoxa, and many more. It is sold as generic doxycycline at the same time.

Doxycycline is used to treat moderate to severe inflammatory acne or mildly inflammatory acne that does not improve with other treatments. It is also used to treat cellulitis or skin infections.

Doxycycline treats acne both directly and indirectly. The drug directly reduces the levels of acne-causing bacteria (acne) on the skin. Like tetracyclines, it does this by inhibiting the protein synthesis of this bacterium. The reduced levels of bacteria also reduce the subsequent inflammation of the skin.

Affects the immune system: Doxycycline also reduces inflammation more directly with its effects on the immune system. The potency of anti-inflammatory benefits is why this drug reduces the redness and tenderness of active pimples.

Doxycycline should not be used by young children as it can affect growth and cause permanent discoloration of teeth.
